Gansey Diamonds Baby Blanket

This is a baby blanket I designed for my niece.

Materials:
MC: 4 skeins of Bernat Satin Sport in jade (221 yds/85 g)
CC: 1 skein of Bernat Satin Sport in cream (221 yds/85 g)
32" circular US size 7 needles
darning needle

Notes: I quite a bit of yarn left over with both colors.
This is a knitted on border using the intarsia technique. Basically, you cross the strand of the old color over the strand of the new color and start knitting with the new color. When done properly, there is no hole where the colors are joined. Consult a technique book or look online if you are unfamiliar with this technique.

Gauge: 5 sts/inch in St st.

Directions:
Using CC, CO 173 sts.
Rows 1-5: Work 5 rows in garter stitch.
Row 6: Knit 5 sts with CC, join MC, purl across to last 5 sts with MC, join a new ball of CC, knit last 5 sts using CC.

Begin Chart 1. For all rows, repeat the 16 sts in the center boxes 8 times.
Knit rows 1 to 18 once.
Complete rows 19 to 34 of the chart 14 times.

Knit rows 35 to 51 once.

Top border (begin on WS): Knit 5 sts with CC (cut this yarn leaving a long tail), purl across to last 5 sts with MC (cut this yarn leaving a long tail), knit last 5 sts using CC.

Work 5 rows in garter stitch.

Bind off. Weave in ends.

To add the heart in the corner, duplicate stitch according to Chart 2.
